‘Sophie couldn’t sleep.
A brilliant moonbeam was slanting through a gap in the curtains. It was shining right onto her pillow.’
When Sophie is snatched from her bed in the middle of the night by a giant with a stride as long as a tennis court she is sure she’s going to be eaten for breakfast. But luckily for Sophie, the BFG is far more jumbly than his disgusting neighbours, whose favourite pastime is guzzling up whoppsy-whiffling human beans. Sophie is determined to stop all this, and so she and the BFG cook up an ingenious plan to rid of the world of the Bloodbottler, the Fleshlumpeater and all their rotsome friends forever.
What I thought:
Just like George’s Marvelous Medicine I’d forgotten how funny this book is. But also just how much is in it, it took me longer to read than I thought it would, still not long but longer. I’d forgotten the scenes when they go dream catching, when Sophie is in the snozcumber and the BFG taunts one of the other giants into eating the gruesome thing, as well as all the stuff in the palace with the queen. So much happens in this book, it’s a substantial book. And there are a lot of jokes in this for the parents and not just all the farting jokes for the kids. (Wizz-poppers in front of the queen!)
Why I read it:
This was the next book in my pile of Roald Dahl, at this point there are 3 weeks till my Roald Dahl residential so I am surrounded by all things Dahl. I’ve also found that I’ve been enjoying rereading all these classic books and reliving parts of my childhood again.
This is a fun book full of Dahl-isms with vivid descriptions and some really scary moments. I loved rereading this one.
Would I recommend: If you’ve never read any Roald Dahl before I reckon it’s a good one to start with. It’s also one that is worth a reread
Popsugar: A book you borrowed/given as a gift.
As always please let me know what you think of my review and the book, I’m aware it’s probably my shortest review so far but I had no clue what to say.
I’m hoping to get another review up today to make up for how short this one is.
Ta Ta for now
