BLOG TOUR – Confessions of a Traveller: The Observations of Alien 597 – Clara Molina

I WAS SENT A FREE COPY OF THIS STORY IN RETURN FOR AN UNBIASED REVIEW

‘Grotesque insect looking beasts, which burst out of your chest, and have acid for blood. Grey and short aliens with big eyes, who want to take over your mind, and they do horrible experiments with instruments that go up your anus.’

Grotesque insect looking beasts, which burst out of your chest, and have acid for blood. Grey and short aliens with big eyes, who want to take over your mind, and they do horrible experiments with instruments that go up your anus. They’ve come to take over the world, and make you into a zombie or dinner. If they ever land in full view, they would either be worshipped and a new religion would form, or murdered immediately, and their ship parts sold to the highest bidder. Alien 597 read her report about aliens that humans had encountered.

What I thought

This is really fun silly short story looking at humanity from a completely outside POV. Alien 597 is an alien whose entire job and reason for being is to travel the universe and find out more about the different species. It’s not even to discover more so they’d be better prepared for an invasion – at least it didn’t feel like that to me. It’s much more to find out more because of knowledge for knowledge’s sake –  why wouldn’t we be interested in finding out more about the different people in the universe.

Why wouldn’t you look at some of Star Wars and realise that Chewie is the real hero – everyone loves Chewie! And cockroaches are the only thing that will survive the universe ending and they have 3 different names or maybe types of species – mf being one of them.

I love the misunderstanding and that from a completely objective and separate POV humans and this planet as a whole is weird and why wouldn’t you take it like that? The only reason a lot of things make sense is because of the context of humanity and because we all agree to ignore a lot of the weirdness of the world.

Why I read it

I was sent a free copy for review, but I was interested because the synopsis sounded interesting. Plus it’s only a short story so even if I didn’t like it it wouldn’t take much out of my life.

Final Thought:

It’s hard to write much more about this as it’s only 18 pages long and a lot of the fun is based on the complete misunderstandings that Alien 597 has. It’s just fun and silly.

Am I glad I read it? Yup
Did I enjoy it? Yeah, it was fun and silly
Would I read again? Yes
Would I recommend? Probably, it’s a fun and silly short story and look at humanity

A month… it’s been a month since I reviewed. Life has been really not great and then I was on holiday (which was amazing) but I AM coming back. Thanks for Rachel for organising this blog tour and forcing me out of hiding.

P.S The next review is Charmcaster by Sebastian De Castell. I’m also going to put up my July wrap-up.
